Relevance Statement:

(Why we Exist)

NEMA House is in existence to help build self-sufficient families and individuals to significantly contribute to the fight to END homelessness. NEMA House, since its beginning, has conducted surveys to gain knowledge of the specific needs of the individuals we serve, and to structure our programs according to the information they provided. We found that most individuals desire jobs, medical assistance, transportation and housing over food, clothing and shelter. According to a survey conducted by Homeless Services Network Central Florida in January 2009, 38% of the homeless population has been homeless 2 or more times in the last 3 years, 15% of which have had 4 or more episodes in that time span. Also, 30% of the homeless population in Central Florida is currently homeless, this time, for more than 1 year. With these numbers in mind, NEMA House created programs for the homeless in Central Florida that will help to develop their character, knowledge, skills and abilities and empower them to become independent, self-sustaining engaged citizens. There are several organizations that offer shelter, food and clothing to the homeless, but not many who strive to equip individuals and families for long-term success. NEMA House will create critical community partnerships to offer the necessary services to make this possible. We believe that by coming together in unity, as a community of concerned stakeholders, we can make an impact and change the world.
